AKISConnect is the unified platform created by two Horizon Europe projects — modernAKIS and ATTRACTISS. Together, they have a shared mission: to foster innovation, empower stakeholders, and modernize agricultural knowledge and innovation systems (AKIS) across the European Union. By bringing together researchers, advisors, policymakers, and practitioners, AKISConnect promotes knowledge exchange, co-creation, and capacity building to enable sustainable transformation.
modernAKIS focuses on initiating Transformative AKIS Journeys (TAJs) - a capacity building process for actors enabling them to perform systemic changes driven by multi-actor collaboration. It aims to:
—Empower AKIS actors to see themselves as interconnected parts of a dynamic system.
—Build capacity for system thinking, knowledge exchange, and governance transformation.
—Support the development of Communities of Practice (CoPs) at national and cross-country levels.
—Establish a strong European network of at least 1,000 AKIS actors, including Coordination Bodies (CBs), advisors, farmers, researchers, and more.
modernAKIS is a forward-looking initiative that views AKIS not only as a tool for knowledge flow but as a strategic engine for modernizing the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and addressing the challenges of sustainable agriculture.

ATTRACTISS is dedicated to building the competencies, tools, and governance models that innovation support services (ISS) need to thrive. Its goals include:
—Strengthening the capacity of ISS and AKIS actors to identify and co-create grassroots innovation.
—Promoting the Multi-Actor Approach (MAA) to ensure solutions are demand-driven and practitioner-relevant.
—Supporting Member States in organizing, funding, and evaluating effective innovation systems.
—Creating accessible tools and methods — such as the Online SWOT Tool — to assess enabling environments for innovation across all EU countries.
